Maurice Livingstone
February 1945 saw Maurice joining East Belfast Silver Band as a learner on Eb Horn. 12 months later he found himself on Soprano Cornet and his first contest in Dublin. On this occaision the test piece was 'Orpheus in the Underworld' with the soprano cadenza included (Can Can?....well he certainly did did) During those years at Laganvale, Maurice also played for the Hendon Band (London) under Conductor Don Morrison. Players in the band included Frank Renton, Barrie Perrins, Stuart Morrison, Bavid Stone and many other fine players.
The East Belfast Band unfortunetly folded in 1955 after which he moved to Laganvale in February 1955 on Soprano Cornet, and was there until 1979. During this time he also played Soprano Cornet for the Northern Ireland Concert Band. 1962 saw him move onto the Eb Solo Horn.
1980 to 1994 Maurice played with the Strandtown Band and then he moved to Templemore where he remains to this present day. Not a bad musical journey from starting banding when he was 13 years old.

"I have been privileged to have played under some of the top conductors in the Brass Band movement such as Alfred Ashpole, Harry Mortimer, Frank Wright, Dr. Denis Wright, Frank Renton, Eric Ball,G. Brand, Roy Newsome.

Some of the local conductors included Alfie, Jim and Jack Burch(present day Templemore), E Ruddock (Sen), R.Adair(Laganvale) and Alfie Bell(Templemore). I can recall having played under a total of 46 conductors."
