John Savage
One of the originals, John started playing in the band as a pupil of Templemore School in 1949, a year after the band was formed. He has numerous acheivements and we make no apologies for listing them.

Whilst his penchant was playing, he tandemed this with conducting and could be found waving a piece of 4x2 in front of the Bruce Hamilton Memorial and Oldpark Silver Bands

Eager to impart his obvious knowlege of the Euphonium and music, he became a Brass Tutor at the City of Belfast School of Music and also Peripatetic Primary and Secondary Brass Tutor.

John is a font of knowledge and will regale you with tales of Templemore past and great palyers and charactors of bygone years in the Brass Band World.

Twice Winner of the Belfast Music Festival

BBL Solo Champion (Euph only)

Three times BBL Solo Champion (All in)

Winner of BBL Ensembles (Euph), Quartet, Septet, and Octet.

Conductor of Winning Tuba Quartet

Conductor of Winning Junior Quartet

When asked of his most memorable acheivement, he will say without hesitation

" The NIBA Player of the Day in the Le roi D'ys"

John is one of those players who seem to have been blessed with leather lips. His tone, clarity and sheer power is an inspiration to young up and coming players.

He can be likened to the Duracell Bunny...........He Never Stops.
