The youngest of four brass playing brothers, Jack began his musical career at 7 years old under the guidence of his father Joe Burch, a Salvation Army Bandmaster.

Jacks' long distinguished career includes playing Trombone professionally with the Ulster and BBC Orchestras and associations with the top brass bands and players.

At 18, he started conducting, encouraged by his father, brothers and Alexander Hollick, Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall. He is currently Bandmaster with the Belfast Temple Salvation Army Band, a position he has occupied since 1989.

His association with the Templemore Band began in 1975 and, under his leadership the band were successfull in many contests acheiving a double hat-trick in the Irish Chanpionships 1975-1980 and competing in the European, National and British Open Championships.

A television series, STAR BRASS, saw him leading the band with soloists such as Bob Childs, Phillip McCann and the famous vocalists from Londons' West-End, Lorna Dallas and Elaine Delmar to name a few.........a little taste of the sucess that Templemore have enjoyed under his baton and leadership.

Rehearsal Time

Currently semi-retired now, Jack continues to tutor many young brass players. His aim is to continue playing, conducting and teaching the young, and young at heart, imparting his knowledge, skills and humour, enabling them to enjoy playing music to the full.
