History of The Templemore Band

The Templemore Band was formed in 1948 as a Primary School Band at Templemore Avenue Public Elementary, Belfast. Under the direction of Alfie Bell (pictured), The band was soon competing at the very top of the contest scene.

 

They were the first band to perform in the Inaugral European Brass Band Championships in 1978, held at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The band have represented the province with distinction at various venues in England and Scotland. At home, Templemore dominated the band arena for many years, winning the N.I.B.A. competition an unequalled 15 times, including an unprecedented Double Hat Trick of 1st Prizes in the N.I.B.A. and Brass Band League contests between 1975 and 1980

As well as the European Championships, two other memorable achievements stand out. The band had a 5th place at the British Open in Manchester and a great result at Teeside when the top three bands were

With a diverse musical lineup, and benefiting from the experience of a number of founder members who continue to play, Templemore continues to grow as a progressive Northern Ireland Brass Band. Young players are eagerly welcomed into the band and prove to be a great asset.

Today, the band competes regularly in contests and has a hectic schedule, entertaining the public, with a wide range of concert performances in addition to competing in the BBL Spring Festival and NIBA contests.
